Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?

Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.

And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.

Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So… what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?

Likely, the last thing you expect.

‘Beard Science’ is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone.

Here we are again, back in Tennessee with this gorgeous brood of men with beards, and their fabulously fantastic ladies. Just when I think this series can’t continue to gain any more momentum and enter into my all-time favourite series hall of fame, Penny outdoes herself once again with her talent to tell a great story, and places it right up there with the best.

Let’s be honest, Cletus Winston is the brother we have all been curious about, he is a little eccentric say the least, but what an interesting character he makes. He’s extremely intelligent, and everything he does is with a purpose. He’s been planning to take down the local motorcycle club down for a while now, ever since they messed with his family, and whilst making headway with his dastardly plan, he catches the attention of local banana cake queen, Jennifer Sylvester, who has been watching him for some time.

Jennifer is only 22, but far too old before her time. She wears clothes her mother has chosen for her, doesn’t have friends, and is still very much under the dictation of her parents. With an Instagram following of over a million, many people know the face of Donner Bakery, but nobody actually knows who she is deep down, including herself.

When Jennifer and Cletus cross paths for the first time in their lives living in the same small town, her life changes course, when Cletus decides he will help in her plight to find a husband.

“Perhaps Jennifer Sylvester wasn’t feeble after all. Perhaps Jennifer Sylvester was fierce.”

I LOVED the friendship that they developed, it was beautiful, perfect even. I just have a huge soft spot for this whole crazy gang, every single brother has something special about them, and Cletus did not disappoint, he was so fun to read, and his heart was as huge as expected.

I was so impressed with Jennifer and her ability to be the strong woman she was, despite being completely devastated that she had to let her parents down in order to do so. She was an absolute sweetheart.

As usual for this series, it was a slow delicious burn, with friendship first and developing into something true and deep.

Another winner, winner, chicken dinner!
