When tragedy strikes back home, Christina is forced to put everything on hold to return back to a past she’s tried so hard to escape. Including a love she regrets letting go. Ian Whitman has only one regret and it was letting his first love walk out of his life. Now that she’s returned, his heart won’t give her up twice without a fight. As secrets are revealed, can Ian soothe her heart while convincing her that a place she tried so hard to run away from is the place she’s destined to stay? Will love get a second chance in the face of tragedy?
JD Hollyfield is a new author to me so I had absolutely no clue what to expect. I went in completely blind but I was pleasantly surprised with what I discovered.
Christina Daniels is an art dealer living in San Francisco, leading the high life with her equally pretentious boyfriend, Brent. When she finds herself lumbered with a 3 carat rock on her finger that she doesn’t want, she starts to wonder how she ended up feeling so empty.
“We do make the perfect match.
Both successful, high in elite circles, and of course both beautiful.
Unfortunately, that’s just not enough for me.”
It’s been 6 years since she last went home, but after a devastating phone call, she heads straight back to the town that holds so many bad memories and comes face to face with the one person she was least expecting to see again – her first love Ian.
Ian Whitman knows that there has only ever been one woman for him, and since she left him he has always been hoping and waiting for her to come back.
When Christina discovers that she has a little human to look after, she re-evaluates her life and of course all of her feelings for Ian come rushing back as if she had never been apart from him.
This was a story of second chances, coming to realise what is important in life, and self forgiveness.
Ian and Christina fell back into a relationship a little too quickly for my liking, I prefer a bit more angst in my stories but that is purely my personal preference.
I really enjoyed the writing style and the heroine was very likeable; strong, independent and funny. I would have liked to have learnt more about Ian, and his background though because he was adorable and very sexy when he had his ‘alpha’ moments.
“I don’t know whether to fuck you or eat your pussy.
I’m so fucking hungry for you right now.”
Overall, I had a lot of fun reading it, it was a light-hearted read, with some very witty dialogue and a small dose of heartbreak.
This story is told solely in Christina’s POV and is a standalone novel.
