They say it takes 21 days to form a habit.
They lie.
For 21 days she held on.
But on Day 22, she would have given anything for the sweet slumber of death.
Because on Day 22, she realizes that her only way out means certain death for one of the two men she loves.

A haunting tale of passion, loss, and redemption, The Paper Swan is a darkly intense yet heartwarming love story, textured with grit, intrigue, and suspense. Please note: This is NOT a love triangle.

A full-length, standalone novel, intended for mature audiences due to violence, sex and language. Subject matter may be disturbing for some readers.

“Vengeance begets vengeance, more chaos, more darkness.”

The Paper Swan was my first book from author Leyah Attar. The intriguing blurb and the fact that a lot of my Goodreads friends loved her previous book 53 Letters for My Lover, had me curious enough to want to pick it up with the hope of finding another great indie author.

I am pleased to report that I was not disappointed, the writing and the subject matter reeled me in completely and I devoured every word and heartfelt page.

I would describe this book as a captive, friends to lovers, second chance romance, which takes place mainly in Mexico between the daughter of a wealthy businessman and the son of the hired help.

We are taken on a journey from childhood to the present day whereby Skye finds herself kidnapped, on a boat in the middle of nowhere, with the only other person on board being her captive . She is determined not to become a victim of Stockholm Syndrome and fights back with everything that she can. Who is this man and where is he taking her?

Two children from two different cultures and from very different backgrounds form a very special bond, but are torn apart by something that seems out of their control. Revenge is a destructive emotion and is the only thing that is keeping these two from their happy ever after.

I loved the way the book was written, the build up was gradual and we learnt about all the little details that were important in order for us to really feel part of the characters journey. It was a deep story with many different facets and superb characters that all made for a fantastic read.

This really was a beautiful love story and one that will stay with me for a long time.

This is a standalone dark romance, told in dual POV.
