They are real. They watch you from their safe place, taunting, knowing. They breathe down your neck and chase you in your dreams. You wake, but they are still there.
Saving everyone was impossible. The destruction, heartbreaking. One man was to blame. Anna knew he was there. His eyes following her every move, his presence beckoning a fate she needed to escape.
This was a war where good never stood a chance. Danny knew he was a target, trapped in a place that would bring him to his knees, survival holding no promises.
How do you win a battle that was lost from the very beginning?
They will destroy you.
Before Little Doll and & Crimson Desert, Danny faced the ultimate challenge, one that would scar him for life.
Laughing Eyes isn’t a book for the faint hearted, there’s without a doubt no hearts and flowers. But beneath the wreckage is love story that will spark you’re emotions in more ways than one.
Melissa Jane was a new author to me at the end of last year, her Bittersweet series had me in knots and I was dying to know more about the side characters, so imagine my surprise when I was gifted an ARC.
Laughing Eyes is Danny’s story, prior to the crazy journey that was Aidan and Laila’s break for freedom.
Danny and Aidan are the US Marine’s best snipers. Contracted out to find and kill El Leon, the man with the ghostly eyes who’s behind the brutal murders of hundreds of villagers.
Anna is an aid worker assigned to a war zone to help clean up the devastation left behind by a man of pure evil.
When Danny and Anna meet, there’s an instant connection made and a friendship is born. But the more time they spend together, the more they find themselves attracted to each other. As the story starts to unfold, it comes to light that it’s not just Danny that has fallen for the beautiful Anna, the monster with the ghostly eyes has become obsessed and will stop at nothing to get his hands on the prize.
I don’t know what I was expecting from this, I knew Danny hadn’t had it easy and that something BIG had happened in his past but I don’t think I expected the outcome we got. It was definitely a shut kindle, breathe and start again moment, but I totally understand why this was done, impact is key after all.
Laughing eyes is the third book in the Bittersweet series, I highly recommend reading the first two books before you dive into this one, because there are spoilers in parts throughout the book that would ruin your reading experience for Little Doll and Crimson Desert.
