Ruckus (Sinners of Saint, #2) by L.J. Shen REVIEW

Rosie

They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They’re right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister’s ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.

Dean

They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.
And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.

Review

“If it’s corrupted and dirty and fun— I’m all over it.
And this girl? She looked like a whole lotta fun to corrupt.”

I was dying to read this one, DYING! Ruckus is the second book in the Sinners of Saint series, and follows Dean, the fun and charismatic stoner who makes up one of the four ‘Hotholes’ – a group of friends who have been tight since their wild days in High School, and are now successful business partners living in different cities, but with an unbreakable bond of brotherhood.

Rosie has loved Dean since she was 15, but he’s way off limits as he also happens to be the same guy that her beloved sister lost her virginity to before she settled down with the love of her life. Not only that, but her life debilitating illness holds her back from really giving her heart fully to anyone other than her family.

Dean has been waiting a long, long time to claim the woman of his dreams – and when the opportunity arises to convince her that he isn’t taking no for an answer, he goes all in to win her over. He who was once a manslut, won me over so quickly, I felt embarrassed for my feminist side – it really didn’t take much for him to make me swoon like a loon!

“A privileged, unhinged, egomaniac from Todos Santos who thought he deserved everything and owed nothing.”

Chemistry was on point, the banter was entertaining, and the underlying themes of the book were dealt with expertly, and with a great depth of research that was evident in the writing.

Shen always manages to pull me into a story so that I feel invested in the characters and their dilemmas, and this one did not disappoint. A story of two people destined to be together, but a difficult journey to get to the end point, it was all I wanted plus more.

Ruckus is a new adult romance and book 2 of an ongoing series. Can also be read as a standalone. Told from dual POV.
