The Golden Dynasty (Fantasyland #2) by Kristen Ashley REVIEW

Circe Quinn goes to sleep at home and wakes up in a corral filled with women wearing sacrificial virgin attire – and she is one of them. She soon finds out that she’s not having a wild dream, she’s living a frightening nightmare where she’s been transported to a barren land populated by a primitive people and in short order, she’s installed very unwillingly on her white throne of horns as their Queen.

Dax Lahn is the king of Suh Tunak, The Horde of the nation of Korwahk and with one look at Circe, he knows she will be his bride and together they will start The Golden Dynasty of legend.

Circe and Lahn are separated by language, culture and the small fact she’s from a parallel universe and has no idea how she got there or how to get home. But facing challenge after challenge, Circe finds her footing as Queen of the brutal Korwahk Horde and wife to its King, then she makes friends then she finds herself falling in love with this primitive land, its people and especially their savage leader.

I am so glad I read this! Dax Lahn = The Man

I hate fantasy crap, I don’t like LoTR or Hobbits or (gasp) GoT! I don’t mind a vamp and dabbled in shifters way back when Samantha Towle was writing them, but the thought of this series generally gave me the shivers so I steered well clear for years.

What a fucking idiot I am, because it turns out that this is now one of my favourite KA books ever! Really I should have been more open minded, I mean I love Outlander and that isn’t ‘real’ either.

Basically, Circe is a normal kinda gal from Seattle who wakes up one day in another world which is very much like our world but from hundreds of years ago and maybe with some other oddities like talking tigers and magic. She finds herself as part of a ‘wife hunt’ whereby King Lahn sets his sights upon her and battles for her to be his queen.

I won’t lie, the first part of their pairing is a bit brutal and savage, but it’s fiction and rape and pillage doesn’t bother me in a story if it’s told well and redemption is key here. These men are savages but they are all so sweet deep down. This book is full of Alpha males, I was in heaven.

I loved both Lahn and Circe, they were fabulous and I loved it when they couldn’t speak each others languages and had to communicate in other ways, it reminded me a bit of Transcendence by Shay Savage in that respect. Also, the sex scenes are some of, if not the best that Kristen Ashley has ever written. Hot and bothered doesn’t describe my feelings adequately, it was like an inferno!

So all in all, I fell for my warrior Dax Lahn and his Golden Queen. Thank you to all of my book ho’s that recommended it to me. I am forever in your debt. I am immediately adding the rest of the series to my TBR and hope to read them sometime soon.

The Golden Dynasty is a standalone fantasy romance told in the heroine’s POV. Also part of a series.

About the Author

I was born a middle class white child in Gary, Indiana, USA. One of the last of a dying breed. I nearly killed my mother and myself making it into the world, seeing as I had the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck (already attempting to accessorize and I hadn’t taken my first breath!). Mom says they took me away, put her back in her room, she looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). She remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.
All I’ve ever wanted to do was write (well, and be the Queen of the World, but you gotta start small) and I’ve published a gazillion books and counting (and a gazillion is a lot! shoo!).You can learn about my titles that have been released or that are soon to be released in the Titles section of the website.
Even though I jump genres, there is always a theme to my books…humor (hopefully), engaging characters (again, hopefully) and romance (definitely).
My loves are movies, music, food and fashion and I partake of all of them as often as I can (the middle two more than the others, the former, which takes time I don’t often have and the latter, which takes money I rarely have). In fact, I love food so much, I like to share my good fortune so I put my recipes on offer for you on this page (see top menu and don’t miss them, they’re awesome!).
I grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and have lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus I’m blessed to have friends and family around the globe. My family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write and growing up it was large and multi-generational. We all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. I grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as I keep growing up, it keeps getting better.

So here I am, thank goodness.
