Worth It (Forbidden Men #6) by Linda Kage REVIEW

I fell in love once.

It was amazing. She was amazing. Life was amazing.

I lived for each time I could see her, and nothing else mattered, not that our families were enemies, our time together was forbidden, or we had to meet in secret.

Our love could conquer all.

Until it didn’t.

So I was ripped away from the love of my life and shoved into hell, forced to continue without her.

It shattered me, broke the best parts of me, left me permanently damaged.
Or so I thought.

Years later, I swear history’s trying to repeat itself because she’s back in my life, and I’m just as drawn to her as I was before. But I’m older and wiser now, and I know she should stay away from a worthless piece of ex-con like me.

So, I will not let her in. I absolutely refuse to hurt her. I will keep her away.

Then again, sometimes risking your greatest fear to get to a smile makes everything worth it, and besides, I’m not sure I can resist her, anyway.

This is the story of how Felicity Bainbridge changed my life forever, starting one summer day long ago after I was forced to change a dirty diaper…

–Knox Parker

Review

I can’t get enough of this series, it just gets better and better and never could it be described as boring. This is the sixth book and follows two brand new characters who are now part of the Forbidden Men family. From past to present we go on a journey that is quite heartbreaking and a little darker than what we have come to expect from Linda Kage.

Knox Parker and Felicity Bainbridge come from two opposite sides of the social spectrum, but a chance encounter in the woods behind both of their respective homes, turns into a wonderful but forbidden love affair which leads to the best summer of their lives.

They spend many hours together in the woods, and although Knox feels he will never be good enough for her, he vows to become a man that she will be proud of, and nothing like his dead beat father and crazy family. He works hard to make sure his family is provided for, but knows that he needs to make his own future.

Felicity has always felt like she didn’t fit in, at school or within her family but Knox makes everything seem easy and comfortable. Their plans for the future, for when they will be able to be together freely, come to a grinding halt one day when Felicity’s brothers change the course of Knox’s life forever and he is jailed for forcible rape.

Worth it is told in dual points of view, past and present and the change in Knox’s personality is so complete that you know that what happened to him in jail was going to be bad but I wasn’t expecting his story to be so heart wrenching and sad.

“I’m just some waste shell of a space who won’t stop breathing.
And I can do nothing but hurt you.
There’s this stain on me. I’ll never get it out.”

When they find themselves thrown together once again, courtesy of Forbidden Nightclub, Felicity is at first very angry at him, and then once she realises that something is amiss, she decides to help Knox fight his demons so that they can once again be happy.

I love a book where the heroine is a sweet but very strong character, that wants to help a damaged hero. Knox is so torn up inside that he thinks that Felicity will be better off without him, but she fights to put him back together again because she knows he deserves it, and he really did deserve everything good. I loved Knox, not only was he protective, loving and kind, but he was great with kids = swoon. When he meets Pick and Eva’s two young children, I nearly had an ovary explosion and I am not joking! As always, it was great to see the rest of the gang.

“Love doesn’t understand time.
It doesn’t care if people change.
It just grows where it grows.”

Told in dual POV, this is the sixth book in the Forbidden Men series, but can be read as a standalone.
